Deacons of First Baptist Church are men who meet the scriptural qualifications stated in 1 Timothy 3:8-13 and who are elected to serve in the office of deacon. Their duties as servants of the church are set forth in the Constitution and By-Laws using Acts 6:1-6 as a reference.

Deacon Pledge:
Having been elected by our Church we trust under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, as Deacons of the First Baptist Church, we gladly accept the responsibilities attaching to the office and specifically commit ourselves to the following:
We heartily and unreservedly declare our belief in the divine inspiration, authenticity and authority of the Bible as the Word of God and the New Testament as the rule of faith and practice in the Christian Church. We gladly affirm, also our assent to and belief in the doctrine commonly held by Baptists, including -
1. The personality of the True God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit;
2. Deity and Lordship of Jesus Christ, through whose spotless life, atoning death, and glorious resurrection, salvation has been made possible for all men;
3. In the necessity for sincere repentance and true faith in reconciliation with God.
4. In the Church as the agency instituted and ordained by Jesus Christ for the fellowship of His people and the carrying on of His saving work in the world;
5. In the ordinance of the Believer's Baptism, and of the Lord's Supper as setting forth the experience of the Gospel;
6. In the task of World Missions as the task entrusted to our Church.

Scriptural Qualifications:
"Deacons, likewise, are to be men worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain. They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience. They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons.
In the same way, their wives are to be women worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything.
A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his children and his household well. Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus." I Timothy 3: 8-13 |
