Our Proposed Church Covenant

Having been led by the Spirit of God to repent of our sin and trust in the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we joyfully commit ourselves to Christ and to one another as members of First Baptist Church Centralia. By His grace and for His glory, we covenant together in the following ways:

John 3:1-8, 16-18, Matthew 10:17; Acts 4:12; John 6:44, 63-65;

Ephesians 1:3-10; Acts 2:42-47; Philippians 2:12-13;

Galatians 3:3; Romans 8:13-14

1. Pursuing God

We will seek to glorify God by maintaining a personal relationship with Him through faith in Christ. We commit to daily prayer and reading His Word, responding in obedience as He teaches us to renounce ungodliness and live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this present age.

John 8:31-32, 15:1-17; Romans 7:6, 8:13; Philippians 2:12-13; Titus 2:11-12; 1 Peter 2:11; 1 Timothy 4:7-8; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11; Matthew 11:28-30;

2. Building the Body

We will pursue Christ-centered relationships within this church family. We commit to gather regularly for worship, prayer, teaching, fellowship, and the celebration of baptism and the Lord’s Supper. We will steward our time, gifts, and resources to support the work and mission of this body.

1 Corinthians 12:12-13; John 13:34-35; Hebrews 10:19-25; Acts 2:42-47;

3. Preserving Unity

We will strive to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. We will love one another by showing grace, offering forgiveness, giving encouragement, and speaking the truth in love. We will avoid gossip, slander and division; and we will humbly correct and receive correction when needed.

Matthew 12:20; John 13:34-35; Hebrews 10:24-25; James 2:4, 15-17; John 17:21; 1 Corinthians 1:10; 1 Peter 3:8; Philippians 2:2; Psalm 133:1; Colossians 3:9, 14, 16; Ephesians 4:15-16; Galatians 5:16-23, 6:1-2

4. Living on Mission

We will seek to glorify God in the world by letting our light shine before others. We commit to proclaim the gospel to those who do not know Christ and to live in a manner worthy of the calling we have received, striving to live peaceably with all.

Matthew 5:14-16, 6:1, 28:16-20; Acts 1:6-9; 1 Timothy 2:1-4;

1 Corinthians 5:17-20; Hebrews 10:24-25

5. Remaining Faithful

If we leave this congregation, we commit to unite with another gospel-preaching church where we can continue to live out this covenant in fellowship with God’s people.
